TOP SOUND REINFORCEMENT COMPANIES TAKE DELIVERY OF YAMAHA PM1D SYSTEMS Tours, Rentals Now Include Large Format Digital Console BUENA PARK, CA (September 21, 2001)Since it began shipping, the Yamaha PM1D Digital Audio Mixing System continues to gain the widespread acceptance that characterized the company's venerable large-format analog consolesthe PM3000 and PM4000for both front-of-house and monitor mixing duties.
Yamaha Commercial Audio reports that a number of top sound reinforcement companies have recently taken delivery of the highly-anticipated PM1D, making its presence heard on the road and in concert venues. These include: Audio West of Burbank, CA; MD/Clair Brothers and Spectrum Sound of Nashville, TN; Hi-Tech Audio Systems, PRG ProMix NYC, and Ultra Sound/Pro Media of San Francisco, CA. "Engineers who were familiar with the Yamaha PM4000 found the PM1D to have similar logistics and layout," comments Ralph Mastrangelo, accounts manager for MD/Clair Brothers. "It seemed like a natural extension of that technology, with the added bonus of total recall and onboard effects. For us, that made it extremely appealing for multiple act dates." MD/Clair has put the PM1D to work on Nashville's Fan Fair festival and the Wynonna Judd tour. Tom Young, sound engineer for Tony Bennett, elaborates, "The instant recall functions, memory and sonic capabilities of this console are inevitably the wave of the future for front-of-house or monitors. Although total acceptance of digital consoles in the live sound marketplace is still not there, those who deny its long-term existence will miss an opportunity to provide the best choice for live sound tours in the future and the contractor fixed installation markets. The Yamaha PM1D is a complete package with powerful EQ, delay, full dynamics and effects." "Our experience with Yamaha large-frame consoles has always been great," notes Ralph Tolson of Hi-Tech Audio Systems, who took delivery of several systems in May. "We believe the PM1D will follow in that tradition." Hi-Tech used the PM1D systems for Wango Tango, a two-day pop music festival which featured artists ranging from Brittany Spears to Aerosmith, and most recently, the MTV 20th Anniversary and Video Music Awards shows in New York City, in conjunction with clients ATK/AudioTek and Firehouse Productions. "Yamaha really listened to audio professionals to develop this product," adds Tolson. "It has the flexibility to handle a variety of productions. The best feature is the complete recall of all parameters, including dynamics and reverbs." "Live sound reinforcement is really the 'front lines' for any product, particularly a mixing console," states Larry Italia, national sales and marketing manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio. "The acceptance of the PM1D by some of this industry's biggest names is really a vote of confidence, not only for the product, but also for the presence of digital mixers in the live sound marketplace."
