Packed to capacity, the celebration included a $1 raffle to win a Yamaha guitar with proceeds to benefit the World Trade Center Relief Effort. Crystal Richards, local Red Cross chapter representative, was on hand to accept the proceeds.
"We were so pleased by our celebration turnout and delighted with the performance that Edwin gave for our friends and customers," states John Reid, owner of Shelby Music. "As all Americans, we wanted to contribute in some way to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy which has affected all of us. The Yamaha F310 guitar raffle gave us that opportunity." "Tragedies like the recent events at the World Trade Center, in DC and PA, make you realize what's important in life, states Rick Young, general manager, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. "We are honored that Yamaha was able to celebrate Shelby Music's anniversary and our partnership with them. Sponsoring Edwin's performance which will aid in the relief effort is a testament to our ongoing relationship. Shelby Music has been a Yamaha dealer for many years, and we appreciate all the efforts of John Reid and his staff." Recently interviewed in Guitar World Acoustic, Edwin McCain spoke about his Yamaha J-body acoustic guitar. "I had never considered recording with a Yamaha guitar until I got this J-body," says McCain. "Man, the tone of this thing was comparable to Martins and Taylors I'd used on sessions. That was a real surprise." The GW writer notes, "With this new Yamaha in hand, McCain felt fully equipped to apply the main lesson he learned from listening to David Wilcox ..McCain relied on the guitar's dynamic range to create an 'emotional bed.'"
