BUENA PARK, CA (August 8, 2000)—Yamaha Guitars has announced that Jeff Robertson of Burbank, CA is the lucky winner of the "Build Your Dream Guitar" promotion, held in conjunction with the Yamaha Guitar Division custom shop.

"The rules were simple," explains Gary Cook, Yamaha Guitar product manager. "Walk into a participating retail store, try out a Yamaha DG Series digital guitar amplifier, fill out an entry form and send it in. Jeff can now create a great custom Yamaha guitar, choosing the woods, pick-ups and inlays, at a combined value of $5,000." The contest ran for six months, with the winner being announced during a random drawing at Winter NAMM 2000.

"It’s a great honor, I’m still amazed that I won," says Robertson, 36, a database programmer. "I wasn’t thinking about the contest at all. I was there to try out the amp, which I purchased. The DG80 series is the best of the digital modeling units out there. The guitar is an added bonus."

Robertson met with Yamaha Guitar Development manager Ken DaPron and guitar builder David Cervantes to finalize design plans for the instrument. "It will be based on the Yamaha Pacifica II, USA model," notes Cervantes. "It’s got a double cut-away design, amber flame Maple top, Fretwave fret system and power acoustic piezo bridge. The really unique aspect will be a ‘heartbeat’–like an EKG readout–inlay running up the fretboard. Every position will have its own ‘blip.’ "

Robertson adds, "I always loved the Pacificas. Now I’ll own an amazing one."
