The editors were impressed with the outstanding playability of the LS500, citing its exceptional lead sound, great single-note style and tone. "They thought that for an acoustic instrument with traditional styling, it had the savage playability usually reserved for an electric lead-type guitar," stated Gary Cook, Yamaha Guitar product manager, Pro Audio & Combo Division. The LS500, according to Cook, has roots in the early history of guitar building. Solid Indian Rosewood sides and back pieces produce a bright tone, and an aesthetically pleasing rich color and grain. The LS500 also features a bound fingerboard and headstock, and natural abalone embellishments. "The real beauty," adds Cook, "is in details like the fine fretwork, individually located bridge, and hand-scalloped bracing that will set the LS500 apart from even more expensive guitars." Guitar Player noted that with its classic lines and smaller size, the LS500 is comfortable to hold and makes an ideal choice for fingerstyle players, including those in the bluegrass, country, folk and new "jam band" genres. "The LS500 was compared against other high quality products and deemed to be the best," stated David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "That speaks well for Yamaha Guitar Developments 10-year history of designing fine instruments. Were honored."
