YAMAHA MOTIF GAINS MOMENTUM WITH CLINICS

BUENA PARK, CA (September 6, 2001)—Yamaha Digital Musical Instruments product specialists are spreading the word on the new Motif Production Synthesizer and RS7000 Production Studio with a busy schedule of in-store clinics and product demonstrations, with stops at various Sam Ash, Guitar Center and Brook Mays Music locations, plus a variety of private dealerships.

Yamaha product specialist Tony Escueta fields questions from attendees at a recent Motif/RS7000 clinic in Nashville.

"Participants at these clinics are a mixture of serious musicians and serious hobbyists," noted specialist Phil Clendennin, at a recent stop at Sam Ash Music in midtown Manhattan, "What they have in common is that they are all looking for something new in the world of synthesis, and from what I've seen, they're blown away by the capabilities of these products." Clendennin, a fixture in the New York music and studio community, showcased a full "production studio" with Motif 8, RS7000 and the AW4416 workstation.

"The real high points have been the sounds, the sampling and physical modeling capabilities," he adds. Demonstrations include a sampled upright bass sound, complete with fingerboard slap, and realistic saxophone, played through a Motif 8 with a wind controller.

Sounds amazing: Yamaha product specialist Phil Clendennin demonstrates the capabilities of the Motif 8 Synthesizer at a recent stop on the clinic tour. It slices, it dices: Clendennin explains the finer points of the looping capabilities of the RS7000.

Yamaha product specialist Tony Escueta, recently wrapping the first round of clinics through the South, also noted that attendees have been impressed with the quality, variety and realism of the sounds. "The added 'behavior' of each sound—such as a violin bow or wind across a flute—really adds interest. Our participants are also impressed with the Integrated Sequencing Sampler, which will essentially let the user 'drop MIDI into audio,' and that's great for production or loop applications."

Future clinics are planned through October. A complete schedule is available on the Yamaha and Motifator websites.

"Both of these products created a stir at Summer NAMM," remarked Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments, "and initial support came through word of mouth, and the Web. The next logical step was to get them out to the public, and the best way to do that is in a dealership environment, where you can get 'hands on.'"
