YAMAHA YFL-221 FLUTE WINS MUSIC & SOUND RETAILER AWARD AT WINTER NAMM 2001

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (January 18, 2001)—The Yamaha YFL-221 Standard Model Flute, introduced to rave reviews a year ago, was named 2000 Best New Band Instrument at the 15th Annual Music & Sound Awards, hosted by The Music & Sound Retailer magazine at the Winter NAMM 2001 trade show in Anaheim, CA, on January 19.

The Music & Sound Awards recognize excellence among manufacturers and dealers in the music products industry. According to the magazine, winners are determined by polling manufacturers and retailers: manufacturers vote on awards for dealers, while dealers vote on awards for products.

"This is a great affirmation of our pride in this product," commented Wind Instrument product manager, Band & Orchestral Division, Kurt Witt. "In 1999, our designers worked hard to address the concerns that dealers and educators had with our previous models, and as a result, the YFL-221 is the best flute of its kind. Since it came out, it's been a hit with band directors and students everywhere—and this vote of confidence from the nation's music dealers is an added bonus."

The Yamaha YFL-221 Standard Model Flute took top honors among band instruments at Music & Sound Retailer's annual awards.

The YFL-221 incorporates many of the traditional strengths of Yamaha standard flutes, such as neoprene bumpers, 4-rib construction and the playability of more expensive models. Along with those features, the YFL-221 includes a new post design specifically to make it one of the most durable student flutes on the market. Other improvements include easier screw locations for hard to reach adjustments, new threading material to help keep the adjustment screws tight and secured in place, a handy footjoint marking to aid beginning students in assembling the instrument, and an ergonomic redesign of some of the lower right-handed keys for easier use.

The Standard Model is available in nickel-plated (YFL-221N) and open hole models (YFL-261 & 281) with either in-line G or offset G.
