YAMAHA INTRODUCES THE SILENT BASS™

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (April 17, 2001)—Yamaha Corporation of America announces an addition to its award-winning Silent Series of musical instruments with the introduction of the Silent Bass™. The SVB-100SK Silent Bass™ is a savvy upright electric instrument sized to standard scale and includes a soft-sided carrying bag.

"Our Silent Series design team learned a lot during sessions with professional musicians and educators," said Michael Schaner, product manager, Band & Orchestral Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. "In fact, we incorporated several of the suggestions made by these individuals into the final design."

The Silent Bass™ joins an award-winning family of Silent String™ instruments, including the Silent Electric Violin™—honored by Popular Science Magazine with a "Best of What's New" award in 1998—and two models of the Silent Cello™. This past June, the Compact Silent Electric Cello™ was honored with a Bronze Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA), co-sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and Business Week.

This strikingly stylish instrument allows musicians to put on a pair of headphones and enjoy the sonic richness and tone of a concert quality bass—while creating very little external sound. Yamaha has achieved this technological feat by providing the internal electronics that allow plug-and-play operation without any need for external pre-amplification.

With a maple neck, spruce and mahogany body, ebony fingerboard and contra bass strings, the Silent Bass is truly one of a kind. The exquisite instrument can be equipped with an optional knee support or stand. What's more, it operates on a single 9V battery or an optional AC power adapter. With a detachable frame, packing and travel have never been easier.
