YAMAHA ANNOUNCES GRAND NATIONAL BOA WINNERS

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (March 21, 2001)—Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, announces the 2000 Bands of America Grand Nationals competition winners. The competition took place November 11 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Six of the top 12 schools performed using Yamaha Percussion.

First-place winners in the 2000 Bands of America Grand Nationals competition, Marion Catholic High School of Chicago Heights, IL, performing with Yamaha percussion.

The Grand Nationals took place over three days and 87 bands from across the nation participated. Taking first place was Marion Catholic High School of Chicago Heights, IL, which has placed in the top six for the last three years.

"Yamaha has stayed on the cutting edge of marching drum design and have the highest quality construction, producing great sounds at all dynamic levels," says Michael Coers of Marion Catholic High School. "We chose to use the 13-in. snare and 16"-26" bass drums, which cut down on the "boominess" and echo in the dome. This allows the performer to play at comfortable levels without overbalancing the band."

In second place was Plymouth Canton Education Park of Canton, MI. Fourth place belonged to Lawrence Central High School of Indianapolis, IN. Eighth place went to Northmont High School of Clayton, OH, tenth place to Union High School of Tulsa, OK, and twelfth place to Broken Arrow Senior High School of Broken Arrow, OK.

Yamaha is the national presenting sponsor of Bands of America.
