TROY VAN LEEUWEN SIGNATURE GUITAR MERGES “RETRO”
WITH “ALT”

Yamaha AE502TVL
ANAHEIM, CA—When the worlds of classic instrument design and progressive, heavy rock collide, the result is the SA503TVL limited edition signature electric from Yamaha Guitars. Developed at Yamaha’s USA Custom Guitar shop, the SA503TVL is a semi-acoustic, double-cutaway electric designed in the tradition of classic archtops and named for Queens of the Stone Age axeman Troy Van Leeuwen.
“Troy has been affiliated with Yamaha for some time now, and it’s fitting to release this signature model,” says Ken Dapron, director, Yamaha Guitar Development. “The SA503TVL has the look and sound that will appeal to both the ‘retro’ and ‘alt’ crowds—vintage and sophisticated, but still appropriate for today’s music.”
Constructed of multi-ply bound Maple with a 24 3/4” scale set in Maple neck and bound Rosewood fingerboard, the SA503TVL can deliver a thick, bluesy sound or just the right amount of focused cut. Electronics include three soap bar single coil pickups and a custom “all access” multi-function switching system with dual 3-way selectors. A Chrome pedestal bridge with a Bigsby tremolo adds to the vintage feel and sound. Color choices include Blood Translucent Red and Black.
“The SA503TVL is a perfect utility guitar for any player who wants the edgy, twangy sound of an old classic archtop without making a major investment,” says Bryan Savage, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The playability and feel smokes anything else in the same price range, especially for the level of specs and appointments.”
Citing influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Johnny Thunders, Van Leeuwen has applied his distinctive, intense sound to bands that merge the heavy with the ethereal. Although best known as a past member of Failure and A Perfect Circle and for his current affiliation with Queens of the Stone Age, he has also appeared as a session player with Orgy, Korn, Deadsy and Limp Bizkit.
