YAMAHA UNLEASHES AES620SH SAMMY HAGAR SIGNATURE ELECTRIC

Yamaha AES620SH
ANAHEIM, CA—Yamaha pays a fitting tribute to the music and energy of “Red Rocker” Sammy Hagar with the Winter NAMM release of the AES620SH limited edition signature electric guitar. Developed at Yamaha’s USA Custom Guitar shop, the AES620SH takes its design cue from the award-winning Yamaha AES620, with upgraded materials and special appointments that will appeal to fans, collectors and everyday players.
“Sammy has been a major force in rock and roll, from his days in Montrose through Van Halen, his fine solo work, and everything in between,” says Ken Dapron, director, Yamaha Guitar Development. “This guitar is, like him, in a class all its own.”
The AES620SH has a contoured, solid Mahogany body with a quilted Maple veneer top, fast 24 3/4” scale set Nato neck and Rosewood fingerboard with custom “Cabo Wabo” inlay. Electronics include an Alnico humbucking neck and Duncan™ JB bridge pickups, active and passive volume controls, and a 3-way selector switch. Other design elements include a low-mass Chrome tune-O-matic style bridge, plus Chrome tuning machines, a 6-finger independent tail piece and a custom translucent Red Rocker finish.
“Signature instruments are usually well-appointed products—and usually well out of reach for the average person,” says Bryan Savage, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The AES620SH is unique in that it offers the solid features of Yamaha’s AES620, the professional features that Sammy Hagar uses, at a price that everyday players can afford.”
Known for his high-energy, guitar-driven sound, Hagar made his name in the 1970s California music scene before joining hard rock act Montrose as singer and rhythm guitarist. He became a major star after joining Van Halen in 1985, contributing to the mega-platinum albums 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, LIVE: Right Here, Right Now and Balance. His solo career spans 30 years, and has produced a string of successful releases and hits, including Standing Hampton, Three Lock Box (“Your Love is Driving Me Crazy”), VOA (“I Can’t Drive 55”) and Red Voodoo (“Mas Tequila”). He continues to record and tour, runs the successful nightspot Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and also markets his own brand of tequila.
