THE DIGITAL TRADITION CONTINUES: YAMAHA DEBUTS 01V96

—Includes 96kHz Capacity, Integrated ADAT® Connectivity,
40 Channels of Simultaneous Mixing—
ANAHEIM, CA—In just over a decade, Yamaha has created a legacy of industry-standard digital mixing products that include the ProMix 01, 01V, 02R and 03D digital mixers. A winning combination of professional sonic performance, memory recall of all settings, application-specific features and practical price points earned these products a place in both personal studios and high-level projects.

With high sample rate digital source material and ultra-accurate reproduction media becoming the new standard, Yamaha again stunned the market with the debut of the PM1D and the AW Series digital audio workstations, followed by the 02R96, DM2000 and DM1000 digital mixers. Yamaha Professional Audio will add a new member to its digital mixer family with the Winter NAMM 2003 introduction of the 96kHz capable 01V96.
Like its predecessor, the 01V96 is an ideal mixer for small-to-medium permanent or mobile installations, with significant upgrades that include improved sound quality plus new computer and ADAT interfaces. The 01V96 will be available in April 2003.
Built into the same footprint as the original 01V, the rack-mountable 01V96 features 40 simultaneous mixing channels with full resolution 24-bit/96 kHz audio, a range of stereo effects with 32-bit internal processing and full automation. The control surface, large display screen and user interface allow analog-style hands-on operation, with eight user-defined keys available for assignable functions.
“The Yamaha 01V96 features some significant advances designed to meet the needs of today’s computer-based recording and mixing,” states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Yamaha Professional Audio. “Best of all, the 01V96 retains the same input/output and signal routing flexibility and the ‘feel’ that made the original 01V famous.”
Inputs 1-32 feature fully independent gating/compression processors, four-band fully parametric EQ, delay and two pre-EQ/post-delay insert points. Stereo inputs 1-4 feature parametric EQ. Up to four of the built-in effect processors (two at 96kHz) may be used simultaneously. Up to 99 scene memories are available to store complete snapshots of all console settings for instant recall. Separate memory “libraries” are included for storage of EQ, dynamics, input and output patching and effects settings. In addition to snapshot capability, an external sequencer can be used to record real-time movement of the motorized faders, EQ settings and other parameters, allowing complete mix automation.
The 17 precision 100-millimeter motorized channel faders can be instantly layer-switched to control any input or output. All available inputs, outputs, effects, and channel inserts can be assigned to any channel or output via a digital patching system. A direct out function allows signal from any input channel to be routed to any digital or analog output.
The 01V96 also integrates with digital audio workstations and provides extensive support for DigiDesign ProTools®, Nuendo® and other popular computer-based recording software. A significant upgrade is the inclusion of ADAT I/O, eliminating the need for a dedicated expansion card. Bundled Yamaha Studio Manager software is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
For further expansion, a single I/O slot will accept any existing or new Mini-YGDAI digital and analog I/O cards, including third party cards, providing up to 16 inputs and outputs at 48 kHz (8 at 96kHz). The 01V96 is also compatible with the Waves Y56K expansion card, recently introduced to enhance the capabilities of Yamaha’s AW Series digital audio workstations.
“The 01V96 brings truly high performance audio into a smaller footprint and attractive price point that MI customers want,” adds John Schauer, product manager, Yamaha Professional Audio. “It’s an ideal option for the first-time buyer or professional.”
