“Leading consumer and trade magazines have always recognized Yamaha portable keyboards as superior musical instruments and the portable keyboards of choice,” states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. “That traditional edge becomes even more apparent with the PSR172. The performance and value available in this keyboard is stunning, and confirms the fact that quality instruments for students and enthusiasts are now within the reach of most everyone.”
Piano-type features are recognized as the most important requirements customers will look for in a portable keyboard. With the PSR172, the piano is immediately apparent with the large, piano-shaped button on the front panel. When you push it, the best piano is automatically chosen, the auto-accompaniment is turned off, and the keyboard is placed in full keyboard mode.
The Yamaha PSR172 also represents the only portable keyboard in its price range with a stereo-sampled piano sound, a technology usually reserved for more expensive, professional products. Just in case the younger members of the family don’t think portable keyboards are ‘cool,’ the PSR172 contains a complete assortment of DJ sounds and styles.
When players say the PSR172 speaks to them, they mean it, as many functions have vocal cues that announce in English. The built-in Yamaha Education Suite will actually count down the beat, just as a teacher would, providing right and left hand exercises, a built-in chord dictionary, and interactive functions that will actually grade the playing of internal exercises. Just to make the learning experience a little fun, there are built-in musical games. A metronome-shaped button provides a built-in metronome for practice.
The Yamaha PSR172 is also stereo and MIDI capable, and features an LCD display and bass ports for improved sound.
