YAMAHA DM1000 REDEFINES THE SMALL FORMAT DIGITAL MIXER
Features 24-Bit 96 kHz Audio, Surround Monitoring, Studio
Manager and DAW Control in Rack Mountable Package
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 5, 2002)As demonstrated
by the recent introductions of total production tools that include
the Yamaha DM2000 and 02R96, the digital audio realm allows maximum
power and flexibility to be packed into minimum space. Yamaha
Corporation of America offers an additional solution for digital
mixing with the AES debut of the DM1000 Digital Production Console.
Designed to meet the needs of the audio for film,
video, post-production, and broadcast markets, the multi-platform
DM1000 delivers 48 channels of transparent, super dynamic 24-bit/96
kHz audio, effects and processing on every channel, extensive
surround production features, integrated control for digital audio
workstations and automated recording into a very compact (23"
D x 8" H x 17" L, 42 lb.), rack mountable package.
"The DM1000 has been engineered for permanent
or portable applications where high quality digital audio production
is paramount, but space limitations are a major consideration,"
states Larry Italia, general manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio
Systems Division, "The DM1000 will be a valuable tool for
digital editing suites, broadcast and post facilities."
The DM1000 features an intuitive control surface
which allows analog-style hands-on operationideal for sound
reinforcement or broadcast applicationsand houses 12 user-defined
keys, available for assignable functions. The unit offers the
same acclaimed head amplifiers as the DM2000, and is equipped
with 20 XLR analog inputs (16 with mic preamps) and 12 analog
XLR outputs. All onboard A/D and D/A conversions make use of true
24-bit/96 kHz converters.
The DM1000 includes a range of 96 kHz-compatible
stereo effects with 32-bit internal processingplus several
specifically designed for surround. Users can manipulate up to
four individual effects processors simultaneously. The 17 precision
100mm motorized channel faders may be instantly layer-switched
to control any of the 48 channels, plus Auxiliary, Bus and Remote
channels. Additionally, all available inputs, outputs, effects
and channel inserts can be assigned to any channel or output via
the versatile digital patching system. The eight auxiliary buses
can also be patched to any location in the system. An extensive
selection of preset effects "libraries" may be selected
and used unmodified, or edited for specific applications, and
recalled as needed.

All 48 input channels feature a comprehensive range
of flexible, independent compression and gating/ducking processors,
4-band parametric channel EQ with switchable "Type I"
or "Type II" algorithms, and channel delay with a maximum
delay of 453 milliseconds.
The DM1000 also features comprehensive automation
and scene memory control, with full automation of virtually all
console parameters; all automation data is recorded at _-frame
accuracy.
Integrated tools for surround processing, panning
and monitoring include: a mini joystick; graphic monitor configuration
and multi-channel surround pan/position displays; individual speaker
muting and attenuation; monitor output level control; bass management;
independent delays; and stem mix monitoring.
In order to create a complete production and mixing
environment, the DM1000 has been engineered to seamlessly integrate
with leading digital audio workstation and computer automated
recording technology, including DigiDesign ProTools®, Steinberg
Nuendo® and E-Magic's Logic Audio; all mixing and processing
parameters, transport control, and editing functions can be controlled
directly from the DM1000 work surface.
"The features of the DM1000 will more than
meet the requirements of any posting, scoring or editing facility
that requires high quality digital audio production," states
Marc Lopez, product manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio.
Bundled Yamaha Studio Manager Software is compatible
for both Macintosh and Windows platforms, and works as a common
medium for exchanging mix data between the DM1000, DM2000 and
02R96.
Two 24-bit/96 kHz compatible mini-YGDAI expansion
slots accept a wide range of digital and analog I/O and processing
plug-in cards. Cards are available in ADAT, TASCAM, AES/EBU formats,
or for extra analog I/O capability. The DM1000 also supports Apogee's
high performance A/D and D/A cards, and the Waves Y56K effects
plug-in card. In addition, a 16-channel ADAT (MY16-AT) card will
be available in the fourth quarter of 2002, and 16-channel TASCAM
(MY16-TD) and AES/EBU cards (MY16-AE) cards are set for delivery
in March 2003.
The optional MB1000 Peak Meter Bridge is a complete
level-monitoring station, with 16 12-segment level meters that
can be used to display pre-EQ and pre- or post-fader input channel
signal levels. An additional eight meters display levels of the
console's eight buses. The MB1000 also features time code
display, and a separate 32-segment stereo meter is provided beside
the LCD screen on the control surface.
Targeted for March 2003 delivery, the system includes
the DM1000 mainframe, MB1000 meter bridge and side panels.
