YAMAHA PM1D CAPTURES HONORS AT 17TH ANNUAL TEC AWARDS HELD
DURING AES 2001
Named Winner of Outstanding Technical Achievement, Sound
Reinforcement Console Technology

of America, Commercial Audio, was among the manufacturers earning
industry accolades at AES
2001, as The Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio announced
the winners of the 17th Annual Technical
Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards, held December 1
in New York City.
The Yamaha PM1D
Digital Mixing System was named winner in the category of
Outstanding Technical Achievement, Sound Reinforcement Console
Technology, competing in a category which also included the Midas
Heritage 1000, Crest X-VCA and Soundcraft Series FOUR.
TEC Award nominations are products, facilities and
those associated with projects which represent superior accomplishment
in the Technical and Creative fields. Categories include Record
Production, Film Sound Production, Amplifier Technology, Recording
Devices and Microphone Technology, among others. Nominated products
and works must have been released during the period from March
1, 2000 through February 28, 2001, and are selected by a panel
of 150 members of the professional audio industry. A voters guide
and ballot are then distributed to approximately 41,000 readers
of MIX
magazine, who selected the winners in August of 2001.

"This award solidifies the viability of the
both the Yamaha PM1D and the digital platform for sound reinforcement,"
stated Larry Italia, marketing manager, Commercial Audio. "Being
chosen by members of the industry for a TEC Award is a great honor,
and should certainly affirm PM1D as the superior digital mixing
system to anyone considering a purchase."
Presenting awards in the 23 categories of Technical
and Creative Achievement were: engineer/producers George Massenburg
and Elliot Scheiner; producer Tony Maserati; sound designer/engineers
Abe Jacob and John Kilgore; and audio manufacturer Eveanna Manley.
Other presenters included engineer/producer Phil Ramone, who inducted
the engineer Roy Halee into the TEC Hall of Fame, and guitarists
Les Paul and Larry Carlton, who co-presented the Les Paul Award
to Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan.
Proceeds of the TEC Awards are donated by The
Mix Foundation to hearing conservation programs of H.E.A.R.,
plus a variety of scholarship programs in the audio arts and sciences.
