YAMAHA UPDATES U SERIES ACOUSTIC UPRIGHTS

—Structural Enhancements Offers Improved Tone and Function—

U Must Play to Believe

BUENA PARK, CA (September 6, 2002)—Yamaha Corporation of America introduces a number of enhancements to the U Series of upright pianos, with new U1, U3 and U5 models that offer improved tone and function.

The updated U1 48" acoustic upright, U3 52" acoustic upright and U5 52" acoustic upright (available in polished Ebony or Bubinga finishes) all offer a larger music rack and improved back assembly. In addition, a new floating soundboard support system has been added to the U3 (similar to the system already featured on the U5)—a system based on Yamaha grand piano design which allows the soundboard to vibrate more freely, producing a deeper, richer tone. All models are currently available.

"These improved uprights are serious instruments, and are perfect for the advanced player or the institution that wants the combination of a quality instrument and classic appearance, but doesn’t have enough space for a grand piano," says Paul Calvin, piano marketing manager, Yamaha Corporation of America. "The U Series is already a sought-after item, and now it’s even better than before."

Like their predecessors, the new uprights feature Spruce soundboards, full-length ribs, the exclusive Yamaha V-Pro plate, extruded aluminum alloy action rails and uniform key travel with Spruce keys and balanced action.
