LOCAL MUSIC TEACHERS HONORED DURING
NATIONAL PIANO MONTH

HOUSTON, TX(September 26, 2003)—In honor of National Piano Month, Brook Mays PianoMax presented a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano at a special luncheon on September 17 honoring the Houston Music Teachers Association and private music teachers citywide. The Clavinova was presented to Leena Soo, a private Yamaha music teacher who has been recognized as having made significant musical contributions to the Houston community and to her students.

The luncheon was a prelude to performances by jazz pianist Sydney Lehman at two Brook Mays PianoMax locations on September 19 and 20th. The "Yamaha Presents" performances which featured Lehman demonstrating the Yamaha Disklavier Mark III, a high-tech piano that plays itself, with keys and pedals that move up and down to recreate any performance. It also "sings" by virtue of a built-in CD player that, for the first time, actually combines live vocal and live piano performances. And, using the Disklavier's SmartKey feature, Lehman demonstrated how can finally take that piano lesson you have always wanted. The SmartKey feature makes successive piano keys wiggle, prompting the player note for note, and backs up the performance with a full orchestra!

Noted Jazz pianist Sydney Lehman performed at the Houston Music Teachers Association, a private music teacher's luncheon and two free Yamaha Disklavier concerts for the Houston community.

Sydney Lehman, an accomplished piano artist, has performed with such legends as Phil Woods, Sonny Stitt and Dizzy Gillespie. She was also the first and only woman musician to join the Airmen of Note, the United States Air Force Jazz Band originally founded by Glenn Miller. In the realm of entertainment, Lehman has played alongside Shirley MacLaine, Rita Moreno, Sarah Brightman, Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Bobby Vinton.
