BUENA PARK, CA (February 20, 2004)—Builders of top quality guitars have always strived to achieve better tone, stronger construction and timeless beauty in each instrument they create. In that same tradition, Yamaha Guitars establishes a new standard for sumptuous quality and tone in acoustic instruments with the introduction of the L (formerly Lotus) Series. Hand-built to exacting standards at Yamaha's facility in Japan, each model of the L Series exudes world-class craftsmanship, tradition and innovation. The result is understated beauty and uniquely rich, distinctive acoustic sound.

The L Series will be available throughout 2004, and features 15 models in four categories from entry to luxury level. Simple and elegant styling features include premium Englemann Spruce tops, Rosewood back and side body construction, and the finest inlays, tuners and bindings. Each model also features Yamaha's original body style, and full 651 mm scale.

"The L Series sets a new benchmark for acoustic guitars," states Joseph Brasler, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. "While old-world materials such as high grade Englemann Spruce, beautiful solid Rosewoods and Nitrocellulose lacquers are used throughout the L series, our luthiers are constantly looking for new ways to increase responsiveness, lighten and strengthen structures and deliver a sweeter, more dynamic sound."

Construction innovations include Yamaha's exclusive Non-Scalloped 90° X-Bracing, which increases resonance and provides a more focused midrange, and the unique SQ Frame Side-Bracing, which enhances low and low-mid response.

"On traditional guitars, string vibration mostly affects the top of the instrument, and the rest of the acoustic structure serves to amplify that resonance," adds Brasler. "SQ Frame Side-Bracing expands string energy out to include the back and sides of the body, making the lows and low-mids richer, fuller and more alive."

While there are a number of ways to approach neck block design, Yamaha's proprietary NC Neck Block offers superior coupling of the neck and body while simultaneously increasing sustain, power and projection.

Luthiers have constantly experimented with the lamination of premium tonewoods to find the perfect balance between warmth and sound definition. The necks of L Series combine traditional Mahogany with exotic Padauk for a clear, natural, round tone and superior neck rigidity.
