Provides Pianos and Drums for World's Longest-Running Jazz

The
45th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival
|
BUENA PARK, CA (September 27, 2002)Yamaha
continued to build on its valued relationship with one of the
world's longest-running and most respected jazz events by again
providing pianos and drums for the 45th Annual Monterey
Jazz Festival. Founded in 1958 by Jimmy Lyons, and stemming
from his dream of a having an entire weekend filled with jazz
in a picturesque setting, this year's event took place on September
20- 22nd with more than 40,000 music fans gathering to enjoy a
spectacular line-up of over 500 regional and international artists,
performing on six stages across the Monterey (CA) Fairgrounds.
Yamaha provided pianos for the festival, including
three CFIIIS
concert grands, two C7s,
one C6,
one C2,
two U3
upright pianos and one DGT7 GranTouch for the stages and rehearsal
areas. Yamaha also provided a selection of drum kits including
Maple
Custom Absolute, Beech
Custom Absolute, Birch
Custom Absolute, Oak Custom, Maple
Custom, and Stage Custom Advantage models. In addition, Yamaha
provided a Disklavier
as a hole-in-one prize for the Festival's unique kick off event,
the Fourth
Annual "Golf 'n' Jazz" Tournament, with all proceeds
donated to the Festival's Jazz
Education Fund.

Over

The Yamaha DGT7 GranTouch was the highlight of this
year's "Technology and Music" concert series on the
Courtyard Stage. "The continued support of the annual Monterey
Jazz Festival has been an extremely rewarding experience for all
of us at Yamaha," states Terry Lewis, senior vice president,
Yamaha Corporation of America. "To again be involved with
world renowned events such as this, given its enormity and wide
range of talent, is an honor for Yamaha."
Performers included: the Dave Brubeck Quartet; Joshua
Redman; Etta James; Nancy Wilson & Ramsey Lewis; the Mingus
Big Band; The Heath Brothers, Roy Hargrove & RH Factor; Charlie
Haden Special Project; Christian McBride; The Monterey Jazz Festival
High School All-Star Big Band; and the winners of the 32nd Annual
Monterey Jazz Festival High School Jazz Competition.
