"We're very happy with our relationship with
Yamaha," says band director Jerry Luckhardt. "The quality
of the matched instruments makes an enormous difference in the
tone, blend and intonation of our band, and we appreciate the
service Yamaha has provided."
Longtime Yamaha dealer Music Connection in Forest
Lake, MN helped make the purchase possible. "The response
from the university has been extremely positive," owner Charlie
Ollman says. "It's nice to be able to work with a supportive
company like Yamaha on a project of this magnitude."
One of the most exciting and highly visible organizations
on campus, the Minnesota Marching Band provides support to the
university's athletic programs, and represents the university
both at home and away. When home, the Marching Band performs at
all University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football games, which
are currently held at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis,
home of the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings
and Major League Baseball's Minnesota Twins. In addition,
the band holds an annual indoor concert at Northrop Memorial Auditorium,
performs in Minnesota's Homecoming Day Parade down University
Avenue, and plays at one Vikings home game at the Metrodome each
year. The band has its own fully turfed practice field.
The Yamaha YTR-6335 is a professional Bb standard
weight trumpet featuring corrosion-resistant Monel pistons, a
one-piece bell, perfectly round pressure-formed tubing and a variety
of other Yamaha features that produce superior tone, response
and playability under a wide range of conditions.
