Prior to joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra in
May of 1985, Yeo spent four years with the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra. His broad based musical background includes two years
as a high school band director, a four-year tenure with the Goldman
Band, performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the Gerry Mulligan Big Band
and orchestras for numerous Broadway shows.
"Yamaha is a company full of people who listen
to their artists, and are committed to providing the very best
instruments," says Yeo, who has been affiliated with Yamaha
for approximately 12 years. "I wouldn't play Yamaha unless
I was confident I was playing the instrument which was best for
me. You couldn't ask for more in an instrument - or a company."
Yeo has also been involved extensively in education,
serving on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music.
A prolific writer, Yeo has written more than twenty five articles
on the trombone and orchestral playing for such publications as
International Musician and The Instrumentalist.
In addition to playing the bass trombone, Yeo plays
the bass trumpet and serpent as necessary for the orchestra. In
March 2002, his newest solo recording, Two Of A Mind, will
be released on the Egon label. Doug Yeo collaborated with Yamaha
to produce the YBL-622 bass trombone and Douglas Yeo Signature
Series Mouthpiece.
