DM2000s and PM3500 Used for Mixing and Tracking
BUENA PARK, CA (June 20, 2003)No audio industry
professional in the city of Miami needs proof that Latin music
is probably the fastest-growing genre in the U.S. This year, the
city played host to every Latin-oriented music awards show, including
the MTV Latin America Video Music Awards, the Latin GRAMMYs and
the Billboard
Latin Music Awardswhich recently saw a move from an
invitation-only event at the 2,700-seat Jackie Gleason Theater
to a star-studded extravaganza at the 16,000-seat Miami arena,
complete with a flashy production befitting the glamour of the
burgeoning Latin music scene and a ticket-buying public.

Acoutech
Corp. of Hollywood (FL) has become the vendor of choice
for Telemundo, handling sound reinforcement duties for the
Billboard Latin Music Awards three years in a row for the
broadcast giant.
|
Acoutech
Corp. of Hollywood, FL covered sound reinforcement duties
for this year's show (their third year with the Billboard Awards),
with Acoutech principals/owners A.J. Perez and Juan Turro assisting
audio coordinator and GRAMMY Awards veteran Michael Abbott. The
event was taped for broadcast in the U.S. and Latin America by
the show producer and one of the company's top clients, Telemundo
Network.
At front of house, Abbott and company mixed production
and music on an analog Yamaha PM3500
and digital Yamaha DM2000
console. The house P.A. included a 48-cabinet JBL Vertec line
array system, driven by Crown MacroTech amplifiers.

Schilling and his DM2000/ProTools rig, which was used to
track the awards show for the May 10 airing.
|
Backstage, engineer Eric Schilling used a second
DM2000 to track the show to a portable ProTools rig, which was
then remixed and sweetened in post production for Telemundo's
final air mix on Saturday May 10.
"Since there's some competition among the award
shows, and [the Billboard Awards] had moved to a bigger venue,
Telemundo really upped the production quality for this show,"
noted Acoutech's Turro. "They succeeded. This show was one
of the biggest, and best, in recent memory." Winners and
performers in the 49 categories included Pilar Montenegro, Chayanne,
Thalia, Alexandre Pires, Los Temerarios, Juanes, Las Ketchup and
Ricky Martin.

Although small in number (with four full-time employees),
Acoutech Corp. has become the vendor of choice for broadcast giant
Telemundo, for live and installation services. The company recently
handled live audio for Azucar! (a tribute to popular Cuban artist
Celia Cruz), hosted by Marc Anthony and Gloria Estefan. The program
was broadcast live to air and recorded by 02R-equipped
mobile truck Artisan
Recorders. Acoutech has provided a Yamaha DM2000 for a new
ProTools production room, and two custom-loaded PM3500 consoles
used for live mixing in two studios at Telemundo's Miami location.
