"A major benefit of digital audio is that products
now allow maximum power and flexibility to be packed into minimum
space," states Larry Italia, general manager, Yamaha Commercial
Audio Systems Division. "The DM1000 has been engineered for
those permanent or portable applications that require high quality
digital audio, but space limitations are a major considerationsuch
as project studios, audio for film, video, post-production and
broadcast facilities."
An intuitive control surface allows analog-style
hands-on operationideal for sound reinforcement or broadcast
applicationsand houses 12 user-defined keys which are available
for assignable functions. The DM1000 is equipped with 20 XLR analog
inputs (16 with mic preamps) and 12 analog XLR outputs. All onboard
A/D and D/A conversions make use of true 24-bit/96 kHz converters.
The DM1000 includes a range of 96 kHz compatible
stereo effects with 32-bit internal processingplus several
specifically designed for surround. Users can manipulate up to
four individual effects processors simultaneously. The 17 precision
100mm motorized channel faders may be instantly layer-switched
to control any of the 48 channels, plus Auxiliary, Bus and Remote
channels. All available inputs, outputs, effects and channel inserts
can be assigned to any channel or output via the versatile digital
patching system. Eight auxiliary buses can be patched to any location
in the system. An extensive selection of preset effects "libraries"
may be selected and used unmodified, or edited for specific applications,
and recalled as needed.
All 48 input channels feature a range of flexible,
independent compression and gating/ducking processors, 4-band
parametric channel EQ with switchable "Type I" or "Type
II" algorithms, and a maximum channel delay of 453 milliseconds.
The DM1000 features comprehensive automation and
scene memory control, with full automation of virtually all console
parameters. All automation data is recorded at 1/4-frame accuracy.
Integrated tools for surround processing, panning
and monitoring include: a mini joystick; graphic monitor configuration
and multi-channel surround pan/position displays; individual speaker
muting and attenuation; monitor output level control; bass management;
independent delays; and stem mix monitoring.
The DM1000 has been designed to seamlessly integrate
with leading digital audio workstations and computer automated
recording technology, including DigiDesign ProTools®, Steinberg
Nuendo® and E-Magics Logic Audio. All mixing and processing
parameters, transport control and editing functions can be controlled
directly from the DM1000 work surface.
Bundled Yamaha Studio Manager Software is compatible
for both Macintosh and Windows platforms, and works as a common
medium for exchanging mix data between the DM1000, DM2000 and
02R96.
Two 24-bit/96 kHz compatible mini-YGDAI expansion
slots accept a wide range of digital and analog I/O and processing
plug-in cards. Cards are available in ADAT, TASCAM, AES/EBU formats,
or for extra analog I/O capability. The DM1000 also supports Apogees
high performance A/D and D/A cards, the Waves Y56K effects plug-in
card, and the newly-introduced 16-channel ADAT (MY16-AT), TASCAM
(MY16-TD) and AES/EBU (MY16-AE) cards from Yamaha.
An optional MB1000 Peak Meter Bridge provides a
complete level-monitoring station, with 16 12-segment level meters
that can be used to display pre-EQ and pre- or post-fader input
channel signal levels, and an additional eight meters which display
levels of the consoles eight buses. The MB1000 also features
time code display, and a separate 32-segment stereo meter is provided
adjacent to the LCD screen on the control surface.
Targeted for delivery this month, the system includes
the DM1000 mainframe, MB1000 meter bridge and side panels.
